This week our #SoaringToSuccess series features Carolyn Zesut '18, an accounting and business administration double major who interned this summer at the United Technologies Corporation. Carolyn just ended her summer on a high note by accepting a full-time position with the company for after she graduates.

Congratulations to Carolyn! Now let’s learn more about her experience…

Carolyn Zesut

This summer I interned at United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) in the government finance department. UTAS is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technologically advanced defense and aerospace products. UTAS is one of the four main business units that make up United Technologies Corporation (UTC), which is ranked 50th on the 2017 Fortune 500 list.

As an intern in the government finance department, some of my main responsibilities included analyzing sales information, compiling trends for sales forecasts, and drafting reports. UTC provided all interns the opportunities to network and grow professionally while gaining knowledge in their field of interest.

Before my internship at UTAS I was set on going into public accounting after graduation, which is the traditional route for many accounting majors. But my experience this summer at UTC has made me rethink my post-grad plans. This corporation has several opportunities for accounting majors, including the Financial Leadership Program (FLP). This two year rotational program would allow me to change jobs every six months to gain experience in different parts of accounting and finance. Last week, I was offered a position in the Financial Leadership Program and I am pleased to announce that I accepted the role and will be starting in July 2018.

My summer at UTAS has been one to remember. I am so thankful to have worked with such a helpful and knowledgeable team. This experience has helped shape my future and I am so excited for what is to come!
