Earlier this summer, Dr. James Nageldinger, Assistant Professor of Literacy, presented at two international literacy conferences.

His first presentation titled, “Class Act: Using Their Language to Connect Boys to Literacy Through Performance,” was given during the 53rd International Conference, hosted by the UK Literacy Association at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland.

The presentation focused on a unique learning approach in which a small group of six-year-old boys collaborated on creating, rehearsing and performing their own original theatre script as a way to enhance reading and vocabulary skills.

Following the conference in Glasgow, Dr. Nageldinger traveled to Madrid for the 20th European Conference on Literacy. There, his presentation titled, “Adapting Readers Theatre to the Demands of a Changing Society,” explored a similar theme of utilizing theatre scripts in improving reading comprehension, content learning, and critical thinking skills.
