This weekend marks one year since the Legendary Class of 2016 graduated from Elmira College. Today, as this year’s graduates prepare to cross the Commencement stage, we are catching up Julianne Heggie '16. This young alumna is earning her clinical doctorate of audiology at Towson University.

Let’s learn more from Julianne and get her advice for the Class of 2017…

Alumni Julianne Heggie for the Where Are They Now Series

One year ago, I graduated with a bachelor’s of science in speech and language disabilities.  Apparently I still wasn’t sick of school after four years of undergraduate schooling, so I enrolled in a four-year graduate program.

In August of 2016, I moved to Baltimore, Maryland, and began graduate school at Towson University.  I am currently pursuing my clinical doctorate in audiology, and working as the graduate assistant for the director of my program.

Moving to Baltimore and attending graduate school has been a major change in my life and it hasn’t been easy, not in the least bit, but I couldn’t be happier.  Last year at this time I was enjoying the sun on Carnegie Lawn; fast forward to now and I have almost completed my first year of graduate school. Balancing graduate school and work is tricky, but not impossible.

My experience at Elmira intensified my passion to work within a field that allows me to make a difference in the lives of the people I work with and I am excited to see what new adventures await in my future.

My piece of advice to the graduating class of 2017 would be to trust your gut.  You’re going to question yourself on whether or not you’re doing the right thing, but work hard and trust that you know what you want most and follow those feelings.
