Let’s learn more from Scotty…

During my senior year this past October, I interned at Cameron Manufacturing and Design, Inc., located in nearby Horseheads, as a human resource generalist. Cameron is a one-stop job shop for fabrication and contract manufacturing needs.  With more than thirty years in the business, the employee-owned company has the capabilities to perform just about any job in metal fabrication.

As a human resource generalist intern, I worked with the human resource department and experienced their role within the organization.  Some of my responsibilities included assisting in the implementation of the company’s health insurance, deductions and earnings of employees, as well as developing a new tracking system for all hourly employees. Along with these responsibilities, I was able to provide information and assist employees with issues involving their pay, insurance, and deductions. The ability to help solve problems and the satisfaction gained from that was one of the most rewarding aspects from the internship.

The internship requirement at Elmira College gave me the opportunity to gain useful insight in a career path I am interested in as well as the ability to see the several facets inside of this vital department within the company. Along with that, completing 220 hours allowed me to see the daily interactions in the office and create relationships with employees in the organization.  Overall, this internship gave me the skills and experiences that better prepare me for joining the workforce.
