Elmira College Cheerleading Places Third at 2017 NCA College Nationals

Elmira Cheerleading placed third at the NCA Championship.

The Elmira College cheerleading team placed third at the 2017 National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals on Friday evening in Daytona Beach, Florida. By taking bronze, the Soaring Eagles extended their streak of finishing third in the biggest competition of the season to four consecutive years.

The Purple and Gold finished Thursday's preliminary round with a score of 91.77. For the second-straight year, EC improved upon its preliminary score to move up one spot in the final rankings, as Elmira finished the championship round with a final score of 93.18, passing Montclair State University.

Davenport University finished in first place for the third-straight year with a 96.48 final score. Taking home silver was Bridgewater State University, who maintained its second-place finish in the prelims with a day-two score of 94.32. Montclair State dropped to fourth place in the final rankings with its 92.48 score on day two. Rounding out the top five was SUNY Cortland, who climbed two spots from its seventh-place ranking following the prelims to fifth place with a 90.40 score in the championship round.
