Five Under Five: Alison Donan ’12

Our “Five Under Five” series features a question and answer session with an Elmira alumnus who graduated within the last five years. Today, meet Alison Donan who graduated Elmira with the Astonishing Class of 2012 with a bachelor of science in speech and language disabilities. Upon graduation, she attended the College of Saint Rose where she earned her master of science in education in communication sciences and disorders.  Alison currently lives in California, Maryland and is working as a speech-language pathologist for Genesis Healthcare. 

1. What is your fondest memory of your time at Elmira?

Out of the several to choose from, I would say it was move in each year. I loved the excitement of move in with reunions and meeting new people in addition to all the potential the new academic year would bring.

2.What is the most valuable lesson you learned in or out of the classroom at Elmira?

The close friendships developed in a smaller community like the one offered at Elmira is an excellent foundation for developing beneficial and meaningful relationships in the future.

3. How did your experience at Elmira impact your passions in your career and who you are today?

The undergraduate communication disorders program provided a unique and strong foundation I have not seen at any other undergraduate program. It cultivated my skills to provide me with the skills and ability to succeed in challenging educational and vocational circumstances.

4. What advice do you have for current undergrads or students considering attending Elmira?

Allow yourself to enjoy every moment and seize every opportunity offered to you including different residence halls to live in each year, courses outside of your desired field, or extracurricular activities with friends. This is the ultimate time of your life to do these things!

5. What is the best thing about being an Elmira alum?
he community will always be there and is so supportive. The friends you make in your undergraduate career will be your friends for life, especially given your shared, unique Elmira College experiences.
