The Elmira College women's ice hockey team will enjoy yet another week as the country's second-ranked team, according to both U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) and D3hockey.com national polls.
Elmira is not even 24-hours off of its most recent victory, an 8-0 drubbing of visiting Neumann University. EC's shutout victory over the Knights completed the weekend sweep, as the Soaring Eagles outscored Neumann 14-2 in the two wins. Elmira also played current No. 5/6 Amherst College to a 2-2 overtime tie at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena last week on Tuesday night.
Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 continued to be a force for Elmira, as she produced a five-point week, which included a three-point effort against the Knights on Saturday afternoon. Durnell's five-point week extended her point streak to four games, during which the East Sussex, England, native has totaled seven of her season's 15 points.
Also having an outstanding showings the previous week was Elmira's d-core, specifically Kristin Chivers '19, McKenna Farole '16, and Rachel Grampp '18, who combined for 11 points on five goals and six assists. Chivers accounted for four points on three goals and one assist, as the rookie blue-liner solidified herself as one the nation's most lethal offensive threats, ranking second in the nation in defenseman scoring (1.07 ppg).
Farole had a breakout weekend against Neumann, as the senior defender totaled four points on one goal and three assists, including a career-high three point effort on Sunday. Making the weekend even more impressive for Farole was that her lone goal was the first of her four-year collegiate career.
Farole's primary defensive partner, Grampp, chipped-in three points on one goal and two assists against the Knights on Sunday. Grampp's three-point outing was her first multi-point effort of the season and ties her career high, which she also set against Neumann last year.
Elmira returns to action this Friday, January 22nd, when the Soaring Eagles travel to Pittsburgh, PA, to take on Chatham University. Friday's ECAC West contest is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Alpha Ice Complex.
