The Elmira College women's ice hockey team remained as the nation's second-ranked team according to the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) and D3hockey.com national polls.
Elmira opened 2016 with a nail-biting 2-1 win against Williams College over the weekend. The Soaring Eagles led by as many as two goals in the third period but an Ephs tally early in the final stanza made things interesting at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena. Thankfully, Elmira's Kelcey Crawford '18 stepped up in a big way, making 12 of her season-high 23 saves in the third period to preserve the Soaring Eagle victory. With the win, Elmira improved to 10-1-0 on the year and has won 10 consecutive games dating back to November 1, 2015. EC's 10-game streak is the nation's second-longest active win streak.
The second-ranked Soaring Eagles return to action this Saturday, January 9th, when EC welcomes ninth-ranked Norwich University to the Murray Athletic Center for a 3:00 p.m. non-conference contest. Saturday's bout with the Cadets will be the second meeting between the two programs this season; Elmira claimed a 7-1 victory over Norwich earlier this season on the Cadets' home ice at the East-West Hockey Classic.
