Elmira College Women’s Ice Hockey Moves Up to No. 2 in USCHO Poll

The Elmira College women's ice hockey team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) National Poll. 

The Soaring Eagles swept SUNY Cortland in Elmira's conference-opening weekend. Elmira, paced by a Meghan Fonfara '18 hat trick, downed the Red Dragons 5-1 at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena on Friday night in EC's home opener. The following afternoon, the Purple and Gold saw its Swedish nationals, Olivia Nystrom '16, Johanna Eidensten' 17, and Anna Tude' 17, all register two points apiece en route to a 4-0 shutout of Cortland on the road. Elmira is back in action this Saturday, November 21st, when the Soaring Eagles welcome Utica College for a 3:00 p.m. conference battle in Pine Valley, NY.

In-conference rival, Plattsburgh State, enjoyed a fourth consecutive week atop the USCHO national rankings after sweeping Chatham University over the weekend. The University of St. Thomas checked-in at No. 3, moving up one spot from last week's poll after trading two-goal wins with No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus College.

Former No. 2, Adrian College, fell to No. 4 this week after suffering a 6-4 loss on the road to then- No. 9 Lake Forest College. The Panthers of Middlebury College, who have yet to play a game this season, sat idle at No. 5 in the rankings. Middlebury opens the year this Friday against 2014-15 NCAA Division III Quarterfinalist, Trinity College (CT).
