Elmira College Presents the President’s Council Award to G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. ’76

Last week, the President’s Council of Elmira College awarded G. Thomas Tranter, Jr. ’76 its highest honor, The President’s Council Award, at a special presentation Thursday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at Elmira College’s Cowles Hall.

The President’s Council Award honors Elmira College graduates who have remained in the College’s greater community, who have distinguished themselves and the College by exemplary service, and who, by giving generously of their time and talent, have improved the quality of this community.
The President’s Council consists of regional community and business leaders, who serve as liaisons between the College and greater community.
Mr. Tranter is a 1976 graduate of Elmira College. Thomas is currently the President and Director of Government Affairs at Corning Enterprises. Tom has previously served twelve years as the Chemung County Executive. He has been active in the community in many organizations including United Way of the Southern Tier, The Clemens Center, Southern Tier Regional Planning & Development Board, and the Corning Hospital, among many others. Past recipients of the award include Ted Bennett ’68, David Sheen ’73, Thomas Santulli, M.S. ’76, Jan Updegraff ’77, Lynne Winner ’73, and William McKenzie ’78.

The President’s Council also awarded the Stand Energy Prize to Paige Kent ’13 at the same ceremony. The Stand Energy Internship Prize, endowed by Stand Energy Company, was established to recognize superior performance by an Elmira College student completing an internship in the local community. Paige is a business administration major with a concentration in marketing. Hailing from Hindsdale, New York, Paige has spent time interning with the Chemung County Stormwater Coalition and Elmira Downtown Development, Inc. She has been involved in many clubs and activities during her time at Elmira College. Her involvement at Elmira includes Orientation Leader, M&M Club, Resident Assistant, Enactus (formerly SIFE), and JV Softball.
