Katie Basu, LCSW, MSW, is a New York State Licensed clinician with two decades of professional experience as a therapist, consultant, trainer, and professional educator. Katie has been affiliated with Elmira College since March of 2019, as the Director of Counseling Services.
Katie began her professional experiences as a counselor in 2005 working as a Residential Counselor in a facility for at-risk youth. Since that time she has worked in a wide variety of settings and with diverse client systems. Her primary clinical expertise is working with co-occurring disorders (mental health and substance use) along with trauma, anxiety, PTSD, and other mood disorders.
Beyond her clinical work, Katie has spent much of her time as a consultant and trainer for human service organizations, K-12 school districts, and medical professionals throughout the Southern Tier and Northern PA. She has provided trainings on trauma informed care, team building, leadership, and integrating Cognitive Behavioral theory into classroom and treatment settings, as well as current drug trends, and numerous clinical trainings on evidence based practices. Katie has also sat on a variety of public panels as an addiction and treatment expert. She has also been involved in local and state research regarding reducing emergency room recidivism of high-risk clients, along with local opiate treatment research. She had been instrumental in her former role as a clinical director, in helping to develop programming and curriculum based on best practice in the field.
In addition to her role at Elmira College, Katie works as an Adjunct Social Work Professor teaching in the Keuka College undergraduate ASAP program, and as a psychotherapist in private practice. She holds a Bachelor's of Social Work, a Master's of Clinical Social Work degree, and plans to pursue a Doctorate in Leadership and Administration in the very near future.
