Community Service

Community Service Banner, Elmira College, We Care

Community service provides learning opportunities, instills civic responsibility, immerses students in the local area, and helps strengthen the community of Elmira. All full-time students at Elmira College must complete 60 hours of community service in a local non-profit service organization. This general education requirement must be completed within two years of enrolling at Elmira College, and take place within 50-miles of the campus. The Office of Career Services oversees this program, with established guidelines and procedures that students must follow as they complete their community service.

Students are expected to view community service as a professional experience. Both the volunteer and volunteer supervisor have access to the Office of Career Services for consultation, guidance, and support related to any aspect of their involvement with the community service program, if needed.

Interested in having Elmira College students volunteer at your organization? Please contact Julie Fielding, director of Career Services.
