Buy a Laptop

If you plan to buy a new laptop for the Fall semester, we recommend making the purchase no earlier than May. Waiting until June or July is preferable because computer performance-price ratios increase with time. We do suggest ordering the computer before August to ensure that it arrives in time for the start of the academic year.

• The recommended operating system is Windows 7 or Windows 8.
• Elmira College does NOT support Windows 7 Starter, Windows 7 Basic, Windows Vista or XP

• The recommended operating systems are Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion), and Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion)
• Elmira College does not support Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) or Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard)
