E-mail Information for Faculty
Your office computer is installed with Microsoft Outlook 2003
(Windows users) or Microsoft Entourage 2004(Macintosh users)
because these programs offer useful features such as calendaring
and a central e-mail lookup directory, that are not present in
programs such as Eudora or Outlook Express. In addition, Outlook
and Entourage store and manage your mail directly on the Elmira
College Exchange mail server. If you access mail from off campus
with Outlook Web Access (refer to details below), then all your
mail will be available to you.

Outlook Web Access (OWA) - Recommended
Guide:OWA
Quickstart Guide (PDF)
We recommend that you use Internet Explorer for Windows or Firefox
for Macintosh to check your mail from the Web. You can download
guides on how to use OWA from
http://webmail.elmira.edu.
Attention! Each time you have finished using
Outlook Web Access:
Choose the Log Off button in the upper
right hand corner of the navigation bar
AND Exit your Web browser.
E-mail client - Eudora, Outlook Express, Apple Mail - Not
recommended
Although use of an e-mail client is no longer recommended
because of the advantages of Outlook Web Access and the limitations
and warnings cited below, you can still use Eudora, Outlook
Express, or Apple Mail to download messages to your computer by
changing your POP address.
The required settings are
-
POP3 address --> pop3f.elmira.edu (please note the "f"
after 3)
-
Return address --> username@elmira.edu (replace username
with your actual account name, e.g. mtwain08)
-
SMTP address
-
Password --> type in your e-mail password as
requested
Limitations and warnings
When you check e-mail with your existing client only
messages in your account's Inbox on the server will be downloaded
to your PC or Mac. If there are other mail folders organized in
your account on the Exchange server, then they will not be
downloaded with a POP e-mail client.
