Resume Assistance
A resume is used as a marketing tool and its purpose is to grab the attention of the employer. By highlighting your education, experiences, achievements, activities and skills, employers are able to see if your qualifications meet their requirements. A well-polished resume is the first step toward getting a job. Unsure how to start? Refer to the Resume Starter Kit while either writing or updating your resume.

To schedule a resume review, contact the Office of Career Services at (607) 735-1830 and submit a copy of your resume to eccareers@elmira.eduat least two days prior to your appointment. A trained Career Assistant will review your resume and provide feedback.

Cover Letters
A cover letter individualizes your application, introduces the resume, and gives focus to certain experiences. Cover letters offer employers a way to assess your communication skills. It is important to tailor each cover letter to each position, showing a high level of interest and motivation.

For help writing a cover letter refer to the Resume Starter Kit. When you have drafted your cover letter, contact the Office of Career Services at (607)735-1830 to schedule a review appointment. Submit a draft of the letter at least two days prior to your appointment to eccareers@elmira.edu. A trained Career Assistant will work with you to polish your letter and provide tips on how to create future letters targeted to specific employers and positions.
