Elmira College is located in a town setting. However, making safe decisions is important no matter where you live and study. In order to provide for a safe campus and enable the college community to enjoy the college’s resources and support its achievements. The College provides professional, trained officers and student escorts.
The Director of Campus Security, who is available 24-7, is assisted by five full-time certified security officers. The department is a non-deputized, unarmed service available to all members of the college community. Campus Security personnel are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year in the event of an emergency or for assistance, including escorts anywhere on campus at any time. The Director of Campus Security, who is a retired Elmira Police Department Lieutenant, maintains a close relationship with local authorities to stand ready to keep the campus safe as well.
In addition, the Office of Campus Security offers several campus safety programs such as Operation I.D. and Operation Key Tag. These programs are free and are designed to protect your property.
Elmira College Campus Security
One of the many ways that Elmira College communicates with students in the event of an emergency is a text message alert system. This secure messaging system is available to members of the college community and is only used in the case of an emergency. Since the system relies on text messaging, it will function effectively even if cell traffic increases during an emergency.
Campus community members may “opt into” the system, which sends messages to cell phones, PDAs, e-mail addresses or pagers. No one will receive unsolicited text messages from EC. The system will not deliver advertising content. There is no cost to participate, though your service provided may charge normal texting fees.
The log-in information for registration is your Elmira.edu email address and your secure password. After log-in, you will be able to enter your cell phone number and carrier to Opt-In.
