The Director is responsible for the creation, management and implementation of
Elmira College’s efforts in branding, marketing, public relations, and communication in the appropriate print and electronic formats, to promote increased student admissions, alumni and community engagement, fund-raising success and awareness. The Director may be expected to contribute to other college activities that generate community goodwill and support the mission of the College.
College Relations Functional Management and Leadership
The Director is required to lead the Office of College Relations, under the supervision of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
Writing, Design, and Electronic Media
The successful candidate will be the principal writer and designer of college publications and will manage print and electronic media projects from conception to completion. Candidates must have proven ability to write effectively for marketing and advancement purposes. The Director should be a master of print and web design, and have the creative savvy to tell the College’s story through beautifully crafted and clever publications and web applications. Candidates must have a superior command of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and related collateral software.
An ability to manage and thrive in a fast-paced, complex environment with multiple assignments of mixed priority is a must.
The Director will serve as the liaison between the College, outside printers, mailing services, and other related vendors. In this regard, the Director will be expected to be the College’s expert on printing trends and techniques, as well as mailing regulations for publications.
The Director is required to write copy or delegate writing tasks to other PR writers or contracted writers and designers.
This includes news releases and any other college-related or sponsored news articles. This position also is responsible for writing feature-style copy for internal and external communication pieces, including Campus magazine, the College website, newsletters and other college-related or college-sponsored material.
The Director is required to coordinate media relations and coordinate with College leadership for crisis communication efforts. The Director also will work with the Office of the President on all significant public statements
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communication, Public Relations, Marketing or related field
• Five to eight years’ experience in public relations, communications, marketing, design, journalism, or related field
• Strong writing, editing, design, and management skills
• Master's degree in a related field
