The 2007 Women’s Tennis season saw another year of
growth and development for an already strong and young team.
Under the guidance of Coach Phil Levkanich the program continued
to build momentum throughout the season ending the fall campaign
with a record of 4-8, 1-7 in the competitive Empire 8 Conference
and an invite to the NYSWCAA Championships hosted at Cornell
University.
Leading the way for the Soaring Eagles netters in 2007 were a
talented group of young yet experienced players. First year
player
Rebecca Kingman ’11 (Hamilton, NJ --
Steinert) despite having a shaky start of her inaugural
season would come on strong late, winning 8 of her last 12
matches including 5 straight singles wins. This performance would
help her earn Empire 8 All Conference Honorable Mention.
At Singles the experience and poise of third year players
Kimmy Kellett ’09 (Binghamton, NY -- Chenango
Valley), Emily Talbot ’09 (Cazenovia, NY --
Cazenovia) and
Torrie Robinson-Neff ’09 (Gloucester, MA --
Gloucester) proved to be invaluable to this years squad.
Kellett and Talbot, while playing the top two singles positions
would have a tough season matching up against the best players
from each team. They will be looked upon to carry that experience
into what is hoped to be a strong 2008 campaign.
Rounding out the bottom half of the lineup was
Dani Oaxaca ’09 (Rancho Cucamonga, CA --
Rancho Cucamonga) and
Aradhna Taneja ’08 (New Delhi, India --
Hotchkiss School). Robinson- Neff would
finish the year with a combined record of 12-12. Behind her was
Oaxaca who provided much needed depth to the
Soaring Eagles lineup this fall and advanced to the quarterfinals
of NYSWCAA Championships.
Taneja would finish the year at the number six
spot and would come away with wins over conference runner up
Stevens Tech and SUNY Brockport.
The Purple and Gold will look to
Desiree Calderella ’10 (Pittsfield, MA --
Taconic) and
Alia Pyros ’10 (Shavertown, PA -- Dallas
Senior) to both fight for time in next years lineup.
With the strides made this year, the Soaring Eagles look to carry
that into the rest of the year and next fall.
