The 2007 edition of the Elmira College Women’s Soccer
program achieved many goals both on and off the field. Under the
guidance of first year Head Coach
Jamie Giger, EC took a new approach to a season
that showed a lot of potential. This year’s team set a
solid foundation in which future programs can grow up and learn
upon.
Leading this year’s team were a group of fourth year
players who have had exceptional experiences throughout their
careers. Goalkeeper
Meaghan Doherty ’08 (Albany, NY --
Albany) commanded the team from the back field and played
a major part in every single game.
Doherty accumulated almost 1300 minutes of playing
time and made a combined 114 saves to finish out the year with a
record of 2-13-1. She leaves EC as the all-time leader in shut-outs
and is one of the top goalies in terms of minutes played.
Captains
Jessica Talbot ’08 (Gilberstville, NY --
Gilbertsville Mt. Upton) and
Laurie Teske ’08 (North Syracuse, NY -- North
Syracuse), also helped guide this young program in the
right direction.
Talbot finished as the offensive leader for the
Purple and Gold, while
Teske finished third on the team in total points.
Both players played crucial roles in the midfield for the Soaring
Eagles as they faced some of the toughest competition in Division
III Women’s Soccer.
Fellow classmates
Erinn Prestidge ’08 (Macedon, NY --
Gananda),
Danielle Thomas ’08 (Mashpee, MA --
Mashpee), and
Christine Domingo ’08 (Newington, CT --
Newington) each played crucial roles throughout the year.
Offensively
Prestidge and
Domingo contributed greatly when it came to
distributing the ball and moving it through the middle and
offensive third. Defensively,
Thomas led the back line and was responsible for
shutting down the oppositions attacks on numerous occasions.
Stepping into a defensive role this season was
Ashley Barker ’09 (Lansing, NY --
Lansing). Along with teammates
Kathleen Appel ’09 (Parsippany, NJ --
Parsippany Hills) and
Gretchen Hawley ’10 (Batavia, NY --
Batavia) the Soaring Eagles put together one of the
strongest defensive groups in recent years. Each one of these
players used their size and speed to control the defensive third.
Moira Ghent ’09 (Chittenden, VT -- Berkshire
School) had another strong season as she balanced playing
both a midfield and forward role. Combined with first year players
Danielle Corjulo ’11 (Southington, CT --
Southington) and
Jenna Wellington ’11 (Arkport, NY -- Arkport
Central) these three players solidified the midfield line
for EC.
Corjulo and
Wellington stepped in immediately for the Purple
and Gold and showed great improvement as the season unfolded.
Also contributing in all facets of the Soaring Eagles formation was
a solid group of veterans and rookie players. Offensively,
Chelsea Jordan ’11 (Petersburgh, NY --
Berlin) and
Katilin Borrelli ’10 (New Canaan, CT -- New
Canaan) showed much promise as they continued to see a
solid amount of playing time throughout the year.
In the defensive third
Heather Brown ’10 (Ashburnham, MA -- Cushing
Academy),
Chelsea Moreau ’10 (Manchester, NH --
Trinity),
Kaitlin Krichbaum ’09 (Pattersonville, NY --
Schalmont), and
Stacy Krom ’11 (Amsterdam, NY --
Amsterdam) each made crucial contributions to the Soaring
Eagles. Their ability to step on the field and increase the overall
intensity of play made them essential assets to the team.
This season truly was a positive one for the Elmira College
Women’s Soccer team. The skill and intensity that the
team put into every single match, will truly be solid foundation
for season to come, as they look to become a post season threat
both in the Empire 8 and in the NCAA.
