Now entering his 35th season at Elmira College,
Women’s Tennis Coach Phil Levkanich came to Elmira
after graduating from nearby Mansfield University. While at
Mansfield, he participated on the tennis team, earning the top
singles and doubles positions. In his first season playing for
the Mountaineers, the
team finished with a 10-0 record.
In his second season, the team finished 10-1
and received a berth in the National Athletic
Interscholastic Association (NAIA) national championships held in
Kansas City, Missouri.
During his tenure at Elmira College, Levkanich has worked to
build a strong women’s tennis program.
In addition, Levkanich is a member of the United States
Professional Tennis Association. Aside from coaching the
women’s team, Levkanich is also the Men’s
Tennis Coach, and is the Murray Athletic Center Facilities
Manager.
Men's Tennis
Men’s Tennis Coach Phil Levkanich is entering his
35th season at Elmira College, after graduating from nearby
Mansfield University. While at Mansfield, he participated on the
men’s tennis team, earning the position as the
squad’s top singles and doubles player. In his first
season playing for the Mountaineers, the
team finished with a 10-0 record.
In his second season, the team finished 10-1

Interscholastic Association (NAIA) national championships held in
Kansas City, Missouri.
During his tenure at Elmira College, Levkanich has worked to
build a competitive men’s tennis program. Winning three
of their last four matches, the EC Men’s Tennis team
concluded one of their most successful seasons to date in the
2010-11 season. Finishing the year with a 6-6 overall record and a
3-5 mark in Empire 8 play left the Soaring Eagles in fifth place in
the highly competitive E8 conference.
In addition to coaching the men’s team, Levkanich
serves as the Women’s Tennis Coach and Murray Athletic
Center Facilities Manager. He is also a member of the United States
Professional Tennis Association (USTA).
Chris Brown joins the Elmira College Athletics
Department in his first years as the Assistant Men and
Women’s Tennis Coach and Sports Information Assistant.
Brown, a 2011 graduate of Neumann University was a four-year member
of the men’s tennis program, including being named
Conference Player of the Year three times. Not only did he compete
on the tennis courts, but he also was a two-year member of the
men’s cross country team.
During his senior season Brown was captain of the men’s
tennis team, compiling an impressive 7-3 record at first singles.
Brown’s success is also evident in the classroom,
internships and campus organizations. He was a member of the CSAC
Conference All-Academic Team for five semesters, Delta Phi Delta
and Delta Epsilon Sigma Honor Societies and Students In Free
Enterprise (SIFE). Brown served as an event marketing intern for
the Vizion Group Inc., which is responsible for the National Dog
Show presented by Purina (Thanksgiving Day, NBC). He served as the
project manager for planning and production of the final report.
Other duties during his internship included writing, editing and
dissemination of press releases to pet affinity websites and
blogosphere to promote the event and the national broadcast. Brown
also volunteered as an intramural referee for football and
basketball, and served as a peer tutor in mathematics and
economics.
In Spring 2011 Brown was honored with the prestigious Ethnic
Minority Postgraduate and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.
Brown is pursuing a Master’s degree in General
Management at Elmira College.
