2010 Men's Lacrosse Season in Review




The Elmira College Men’s Lacrosse team greatly improved from last season, finishing 6-9 in the 2010 season. The Soaring Eagles went 2-6 in the always challenging Empire 8 Conference, but posted a 4-3 record against non-conference opponents. Once again Elmira was led by Brad Levick ’10 (Newmarket, ONT -- St. Andrews College), who in his 4th season with the purple and gold, scored an impressive 49 goals, adding 22 assists for a total of 71 points in his 15 starts. Levick led the Empire 8 in goals and points per game, and was selected to the Empire 8 All Conference 2nd Team. On March 31st against Medaille College he broke an Elmira College record for most points in a game with 13. On the season Levick scored on 49% of his shots and put 74% of his attempts on goal, while adding 20 ground balls in his final campaign. Levick finishes his career 3rd all time in Elmira College history in goals with 123 and also finishes 3rd all time in the school’s history with 167 career points. 

In addition to Levick, players in their final season include Kevin Morrison ’10 (Hingham, MA -- Boston College), JP Kennedy ’10 (Newport, RI -- Providence Country Day), Dan Frost ’10 (Bow, NH -- Bow), Brandon Saylor ’10 (Cleveland Heights, OH -- Cleveland Heights), Vinnie Anastasi ’10 (Syracuse, NY -- Corcoran), Geoffrey Lane ’10 (Pennington, NJ -- Pennington School), Scott Gamble ’10 (Toronto, ONT -- Leaside), Rob Thompson ’10 (Hellertown, PA -- Yarmouth), and Tom Hosey ’10 (Springfield, MA -- Williston Northampton). Morrison finished his 4th year tallying 16 goals, assisting on 5 others, while notching 23 ground balls. Kennedy appeared in 15 games scoring 11 times with 5 assists, while Frost ended the year with 7 goals, 6 assists, 23 ground balls, and was Elmira College’s representative for Sportsman of the Year. Saylor started 14 of 15 games notching 4 goals and 1 assist, and recorded team highs scooping up 97 ground balls and winning 118 face-offs, while also causing 25 turnovers. For his efforts Saylor received Empire 8 Conference Honorable Mention honors and finishes his career 3rd all time in Elmira College history with 267 ground balls.

Anastasi started in all 15 games on the defense grabbing 26 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers. Lane started 11 games in net for the Soaring Eagles posting a 5-6 record, 14.78 goals against average and a 42.9% save percentage, while recording 26 ground balls in the field. Gamble appeared in 7 games tallying an assist, 7 ground balls, and 5 caused turnovers. Thompson and Hosey appeared in 8 and 13 games respectively. Thompson had 7 ground balls while Hosey grabbed 6 and caused 2 turnovers.

Behind Levick, Rick Acorn ’12 (Barrie, ONT -- Innisdale), TJ White ’12 (Collegeville, PA -- Methacton), Kenny Keirstead ’11 (Waltham, MA -- Waltham), and Bobby Thomas ’13 (Wantagh, NY -- General Douglas MacArthur) provided the offense for the Soaring Eagles. Acorn started 9 of 11 games played and scored 21 goals on 48 shots putting 79% of his shots on goal. He added 18 assists, was 2nd on the team in points with 39, and notched 30 ground balls. White netted 24 goals and 13 assists, adding 26 ground balls, while Keirstead scored 20 times, tallied 6 assists, with 10 ground balls. Thomas scored 7 goals, notched 20 assists, and scooped 11 ground balls in his 14 appearances.

Also contributing to the Soaring Eagles improved 2010 season were Paul Schwartz ’11 (Allison Park, PA -- Kiski School), Barrett Gast ’12 (Orchard Park, NY -- Orchard Park), Travis Armideo ’12 (Kimberton, PA -- Haverford School), Adam Walker ’11 (Corning, NY -- Corning East), and Nate Lowmaster ’13 (Horseheads, NY -- Horseheads). Schwartz started 14 of 15 games contributing 3 assists to the offensive effort, but made his mark defensively with 40 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers. Gast started all 15 games finishing with 45 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers, while Armideo appeared in 15 games notching 2 goals, 45 ground balls, and won 56 face-offs. Walker and Lowmaster appeared in 13 and 12 games respectively. Walker and Lowmaster each scored 6 times, Walker recording 7 assists while Lowmaster had 3.

Gaining experience for the Soaring Eagles in net were Dave Bucchino ’13 (Cedar Grove, NJ -- Bow), and Matt Hale ’11 (Cato, NY -- Cato-Meridian). Bucchino played 284 minutes in goal stopping 47.5% of the shots he faced. He finished the season with a 15.39 goals against average and had a 1-3 record on the season. Hale stopped 42.1% of shots faced and posted 17.17 goals against average.

Also seeing time on the field for Elmira this season were Richard Courto ’11 (Fayetteville, NY -- Fayetteville Manlius), Brock Sawyer ’12 (Toronto, ONT -- City Academy), Alex Ostrum ’13 (Montpelier, VT -- Montpelier), Colby Ross ’13 (Wayne, ME -- Kents Hill), Brad States ’13 (Monmouth, NJ -- West Windsor-Plainsboro North), Guillaume Meli ’13 (Burlington, VT -- Rice Memorial), and Paul Tagari ’13 (Newbury Park, CA -- Newbury Park). In their appearances each gained valuable experience that should be beneficial towards next season.
