Elmira College Men's Soccer Improves to 2-0 with win over Bard College
September 8th, 2009
Elmira, NY – The Elmira College
Men’s Soccer team won another decisive game this
evening by defeating host Bard College 2-0. It was a stalemate
throughout the first half and most of the second half until the
Purple and Gold struck for two goals in the 78th and 89th minutes
of the game. The Soaring Eagles looked to apply pressure to the
opposing goalie and did so by putting 9 of their 15 total shots on
goal.
First year forward
Erik Lee ’13 gave the Soaring Eagles
the game winner by scoring on an assist from teammate
Brian Haschke ’10 in the 78th minute
of play. This was
Lee’s first goal of his colligate
career.
The game seemed to still be up in the air with Elmira leading only
by 1 until
Jason Guernsey ’12 came off the bench
to tally up his second goal of the season.
Haschke again was responsible for the assist.
A strong defensive effort proved to be the key factor in
tonight’s win. Guarding the net was second year goal
keeper
Jared Micheller ’12 who played all 90
minutes.
Micheller tallied up 3 saves and chalked up his
first shut out victory of his colligate career.
For Bard College, Devon Connelly registered 90 minutes and made
seven saves in goal.
The Soaring Eagles Men’s Soccer team will look to
continue their success as they go on the road to play the
University of Pitt-Bradford on September 12, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
