ELMIRA, NY– The Elmira College Soaring Eagles
(2-9, 1-3 Empire 8 Conference) dropped a heartbreaker, 2-1, to the
Buffalo State College Bengals on Tuesday. The Purple and
Gold were helped by
Danielle Corjulo ’11 (Southington, CT --
Southington), who scored midway through the first half to
even the game at 1-1. An improved defensive effort could
not hold the Bengals down, as a late tally from Buffalo
State’s Ashley Mazurkiewicz ’12 sealed the
win.
Buffalo State’s Barb Kiliszek ’11 put the
Bengals on the board first with a score midway through the first
half. Kiliszek goal came in the 25th minute off a right
corner kick from teammate Hannah Williams
’12. Kiliszek launched five of the
Bengals’ 10 first half shots to help the visiting team
to a 1-0 advantage.
It took the Soaring Eagles a little over two minutes to tie the
score, when second year forward
Corjulo claimed her second tally of the
season. After a foul on
Isabel Munoz ’11 (Merrick, NY -- Sanford H.
Calhoun) the Purple and Gold lined up for a penalty shot
where a quick pass from
Munoz found
Corjulo in front of the net to tie the score at
1-1.
Stacy Krom '11 (Amsterdam, NY -- Amsterdam)
finished four first half saves as the Soaring Eagles were out shot
10-2 in the opening frame.
Mazurkiewicz put the game away midway through the second half
thanks to a one-timer pass from Kristina Boberskyj
’12.
Krom finished with five total saves as the Soaring
Eagles and Bengals split shots on goal, 13-13. Buffalo
State held the advantage in corner kicks, 3-1.
The Soaring Eagles will travel to Ithaca College for their fifth
Empire 8 Conference game of the season. Game time is
scheduled for Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
