Elmira College Welcomes Back Greg Fargo '06 as Head Women's Ice Hockey and Golf Coach
June 2nd, 2008
ELMIRA, NY - Vice President of Athletics and Health Services
Patricia Thompson ’75 announced the appointment of
Greg Fargo ’06 as the new Head
Women’s Ice Hockey and Golf Coach at Elmira College.
Fargo replaces former Head Coach Paul
Nemetz-Carlson who led the Soaring Eagles for the past four
seasons.
An Elmira College graduate,
Fargo returns to EC after serving on the
Men’s Ice Hockey coaching staff at Canisius College in
Buffalo, NY since 2006. His many responsibilities with the Golden
Griffins included the planning and implementing of game and
practice plans, as well as scouting, video analysis, community
outreach, and recruiting.
In his two seasons with the program, one of his key focus areas was
working with the goaltenders, which yielded a combined seven
Atlantic Hockey Association (AHA) Goaltender of the Week honors for
the Griffins.
Off the ice,
Fargo also contributed greatly to his
player’s success in the classroom, helping the
team’s overall grade point average increase from a 2.99
to a 3.14 in just his first season with the team.
As a player for the Soaring Eagles, from 2002-2006, Fargo had one
of the most prolific careers between the pipes ever. In his tenure
at Elmira,
Fargo helped the Purple and Gold earn two
appearances in the ECAC West Championship finals and the NCAA
Division III Frozen Four.
To date,
Fargo still holds the all-time career saves and
minutes played record at Elmira recording a combined 2,565 saves in
5,123 minutes played in his four seasons. His 2005-06 save
percentage of .926 is still the all-time best at EC, while his
goals against average in that same season ranks him second in the
programs 34 year history.
In addition to competing as a standout goaltender,
Fargo was a member of the Men’s Golf
team.
“
Coach Fargo is a young professional with
tremendous promise, Thompson said. We are excited to give one of
our own graduates the opportunity to continue the tradition of our
nationally ranked program.”
Fargo received his Masters of Science in Physical
Education with a Concentration in Coaching at Canisius, and holds a
Bachelors of Science degree in Adolescence Education and Social
Studies from EC. Along with his coaching responsibilities,
Fargo will be responsible for teaching Physical
Education courses.
