Turnovers Prove Costly for Women's Basketball against No. 16 U. of Rochester
November 27th, 2007
ROCHESTER, NY - A combined 23 turnovers proved to be the
Achilles heal for the Soaring Eagles (1-2) as they were handed
their second loss of the season by Nationally Ranked University of
Rochester (4-1) Tuesday evening.
The Yellowjackets entered the game ranked 16th overall in Division
III Women’s Basketball according to the latest USA
TODAY ESPN Division III Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released
Tuesday afternoon.
Fourth year guard
Kourtney Troutman ’08 (South Dayton, NY -- Pine
Valley) led the way for the Purple and Gold tying the game
high 15 points.
Troutman finished the game 4-11 from the floor,
and shot 100% from the free throw line (5-5).
Despite trialing the Yellowjackets for most of the game, EC
actually took control in the early minutes notching a one point
lead on a three point basket from first year player
Becky Peterman ’11 (Glen Gardner, NJ --
Voorhees).
Peterman who made her first collegiate start went
2-5 from the floor, scoring a pair of three point baskets.
For the first five minutes EC tried to hold onto their slim lead,
but unfortunately the Soaring Eagles could not maintain their
momentum. Rochester earned their first lead of the game with 14:27
left to play and did not look back. By the midway mark the
Yellowjackets earned themselves a nine point lead (18-9).
As the half winded down Rochester earned some breathing room
between themselves and EC. By the end of the first half the Soaring
Eagles trailed by 19 points. Helen Baroody ended out the half with
a three point basket giving the Yellowjackets the momentum going
into the locker room.
In the opening seconds of the second half, EC managed to close the
distance between them and Rochester scoring 8 unanswered points.
Unfortunately the momentum did not last with Rochester earning a
comfortable 25 point lead by the midway point.
With less than 10 minutes to play, the Purple and Gold tried to do
everything they could to stop bleeding, but the Yellowjackets
continued to apply their offensive pressure earning their biggest
lead of the game (70-40) with 4:35 left to play.
EC however did not go down quietly as they tried to close the gap
within the final minutes of play. It however was too little to
late, with the final horn sounding.
Women’s Basketball returns to action this Friday as
they host Hartwick College in an Empire 8 Conference game at 6 p.m.
at Speidel Gymnasium.
