Men's Basketball Falls to Pitt-Bradford

November 26th, 2007
ELMIRA, NY - Pitt-Bradford guard JD Redding earned a game high 14 points to help guide the Panthers (3-1) to a 65-47 victory over the Soaring Eagles (0-3) Monday evening at Speidel Gymnasium.

EC came into the game looking to earn their first win of the season as they prepare to open up their conference schedule this Friday evening.

Unfortunately the Panthers offense had other ideas. Pitt-Bradford’s defense shut down the Purple and Gold’s offense, never once allowing the team to take the lead.

Even though the Soaring Eagles were not able to find an offensive spark, second year guard David Nelson ’10 (Bainbridge, NY -- Bainbridge-Guilford) managed to earn a total of 13 points. Nelson finished the evening 4-8 from the floor and was 5-5 from the free-throw line.

The Panthers who took an early 4 point lead in the opening minutes found themselves only leading by one with about 15 minutes to play. Unfortunately Pitt-Bradford responded quickly earning 7 unanswered points to retake a solid lead (19-9).

As the first half winded down the Soaring Eagles were only able to close the gap between themselves and the Panthers slightly. EC was unable to record a point for about five minutes, which allowed the Panthers to gain some more breathing room between themselves and EC. With the halftime horn sounding, the Soaring Eagles trailed the Panthers 29-19.

Following the halftime intermission the Purple and Gold did everything in their power to stop the Panthers offense, but were unable to. As the half played on Pitt-Bradford took a commanding 16 point lead with less than 10 minutes to play in the game.

EC tried to battle it’s way back with back-to-back three point baskets from first year player Bobby DiPiazza ’11 (Ridgewood, NJ -- Bergen Catholic). Unfortunately his efforts were too little to late, with the final horn sounding just minutes after DiPiazza’s second basket.

Men’s Basketball returns to action this Friday when they face the Hawks of Hartwick College in an Empire 8 conference game at 8 p.m. at Speidel Gymnasium.
