Women's Basketball Eases by Delaware Valley in First Round of Pepsi-Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament
November 17th, 2007
SELINSGROVE, PA - Fourth year guard
Bridget Catanese ’08 (Yardley, PA -- Notre
Dame) notched her first double-double of the season to
help guide the Soaring Eagles (1-0) to a 73-52 victory over
Delaware Valley College (0-1) in the first round of the Pepsi-Weis
Markets Tip-Off Tournament at Susquehanna University Saturday
evening.
From the beginning of the game, the Soaring Eagles controlled the
offensive momentum. Fourth year Tri-captain
Kourtney Troutman ’08 (South Dayton, NY -- Pine
Valley) earned a steal and the lay-up to give EC their
first basket of the 2007 season. Troutman eventually finished the
game with 19 points and 5 total rebounds.
Throughout the entire first half of play, EC applied consistent
pressure to Delaware Valley’s defense. EC as a whole
shot 49% from the floor as compared to Delaware’s 35%.
The Soaring Eagles went into the halftime break leading 43-26.
The second half proved to be the same story for the Purple and
Gold. First year player
Erin Rupell ’11 (Lehighton, PA --
Lehighton) started off the half scoring an easy lay-up to
put EC ahead 45-26.
Rupell had a strong showing in her first
collegiate game, pulling down a total of 8 rebounds while notching
8 total points of her own. She finished the evening shooting 3-11
from the floor and was 2-2 from the line.
Delaware Valley was only able to cut the lead down to 13 points
right around the midway mark. However that did not last long with
EC opening up the flood gates in the final 10 minutes of play. The
eventually would end the game leading Delaware Valley by 21 points.
As the final horn sounded, EC secured a place in the Championship
game tomorrow afternoon which will be played at 3 p.m. against
Susquehanna University.
