Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener to Ferrum College
November 16th, 2007
FERRUM, VA - Fourth year player Jon Godsey and first year player
Marcus Mayo each earned double figures in scoring to lead the
Panthers of Ferrum College (1-0) to an 89-49 season opener victory
over the Soaring Eagles (0-1) Friday evening in Ferrum, VA.
EC managed to start the game off earning an early offensive surge
led by second year guard
Bryan Mathews ’10 (Horseheads, NY --
Horseheads).
Mathews nailed an early three point basket to put
the Soaring Eagles up by one in the early minutes of the game.
From there EC and Ferrum battled for control of the first half.
However it was not long until the Panthers seized control of not
only the first half, but the entire game.
The Soaring Eagles used a combination of returning and new players
in hopes to gain a late offensive spark. Second year forward
Palen Andreozzi ’10 (Albany, NY -- Christian
Brothers Academy) and first year guard
Noah Zazulia ’11 (Palm City, FL -- Jensen
Beach) led the offensive charge for the Purple and Gold
notching a combined 15 points respectively.
Even with the hard fought efforts of the entire team, EC was unable
to close the gap between them and Ferrum before the final horn
sounded.
Men’s Basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when
they head to SUNY Cortland to face the Red Dragons in
non-conference game. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
