No. 8 Men's Hockey Cruises by Buffalo State

November 14th, 2007
BUFFALO, NY - Second year goaltender Casey Tuttle ’10 (Chelsea, ME -- Portland Jr. Pirates) earned his first shutout of the 2007 season against the Bengals of Buffalo State College Tuesday evening in a non-conference game at the Buffalo State College Ice Arena. The Soaring Eagles came into the game ranked eighth in the nation according to the most recent USCHO.com Division III National Poll.

EC took control of the game offensively in the early minutes. The offense dominated the flow of the game, forcing the Bengals defense to clear the puck any chance they got it, with really not effective counter attack. However, EC was only able to find the back of Buffalo States goal late in the period.

First year forward Rick Schrank ’11 (Newmarket, ONT -- Newmarket Hurricanes) broke the scoreless draw at 16:41 in the period. Assisting the goal was fourth year Captain Michael Richard ’08 (LaSalle, QC -- Gloucester Rangers). Richard ended the game with a pair of assists, his second coming on the third goal of the evening.

The Soaring Eagles sealed the victory in the second period netting a pair of goals to give them their fourth win of the year. Russell Smith ’08 (Annapolis, MD -- Lowell Lockmonsters) earned the first goal of the period for the Purple and Gold, while Nicolas Dumoulin ’09 (Prevost, QC -- St. Jerome Panthers) earned his goal on a power-play late in the second period. Smith also assisted the third and final goal alongside Richard.

EC’s defense as a whole had a solid showing against the Bengals, who were only able to get the puck off 24 times. Tuttle managed 6 saves in the first period, while earning 9 saves in both the second and third period. Tuesdays’ game marked not only the first shutout of the season for Tuttle, but was also the first shutout of his career as well. His overall career record at EC currently stands at 15-5-4 (70.8%).

Men’s Ice Hockey returns to the Murray Athletics Center this Saturday as they play host to #4 SUNY Plattsburgh in a non-conference game. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
