ELMIRA, NY - The Soaring Eagles Women’s Hockey Team
entered their first conference matchup of the 2007 campaign against
the Cougars of Chatham University with the confidence of a seasoned
team. From the moment the first puck dropped the Soaring Eagles
dominated.
It did not take long for the Purple and Gold to show their level of
talent. They would take control of the game 7:28 into the first
period. First year Forward
Laura Mulligan’11 (Ridgefield, CT --
Connecticut Polar Bears) earned her first career goal on
an assist from
Catherine Shears ’09 (Cornerbrook, NF
-- Appleby College). The real star of the first
period was the Soaring Eagle defense which shut down the Cougar
attack, holding them to 0 shots on goal.
Entering the second period EC continued to steam roll.
Farren Hart ’08 (Perth, ONT --St.
George’s School), scored her first goal of the
season 29 seconds into the period on an assist from
Erika Godwin ’09 (Ottawa, ONT -- Nepean Wildcat
Mid AA) and
Shears. The Soaring Eagles would tally three more
goals by the end of the second period including a goal from Team
Captain
Kayla Coady ’09 (Charlottetown, PEI --
Berkshire School) five minutes in.
In the third and final period, the Soaring Eagles continued to
dominate the game.
Coady would earn a hat trick scoring both her
second and third goals in the period. Elmira would continue to keep
the puck in the Cougar zone by out shooting Chatham 16-6 in the
final period. Despite a final surge from the Chatham, Elmira would
prove to be too much as they would score their tenth and final goal
of the game on a shot from
Karen Colehour ’10 (Schenectady, NY --
Troy-Albany Ice Cats U-19) who was assisted by team leader
Jenna McCall’10 (Thamesford, ONT -- Blue Water
Hawks).
The Soaring Eagles return to action tomorrow afternoon and will
again play host to Chatham University at 2 p.m. at the Murray
athletic Center.
