AURORA, NY - Second year forward
Deanna Henson ’10 (Carmel, NY --
Carmel) earned her first career hat trick (3 goals) to
help lead the Soaring Eagles (3-9) to a 4-1 victory over the
Express of Wells College (2-12) Wednesday afternoon.
The Purple and Gold recorded a season high 31 shots throughout the
course of the match.
Morgan Blair ’11 (Hamburg, NY --
Hamburg) led the way for EC tallying a total of 7 shots.
Henson wasted little time in giving the Purple and
Gold the lead. Her first goal was scored 6 minutes in on a pass
from
Shannon Desgrosiellier ’08 (New York Mills, NY
-- New York Mills). Despite earning the early 1-0 lead the
Soaring Eagles did not let up on their offensive pressure.
Kelsey Burke ’11 (Williamsville, NY --
Williamsville-North) added to EC’s lead in the
24th minute on an unassisted goal, her first of the season. Wells
would notch their first and only goal on the score board 28 seconds
after
Burke's. However, EC’s defense managed
to regain their composure, and only allowed one more shot for the
rest of the first half.
Henson connected with
Burke four minutes before the halftime break,
extending EC’s lead back to two goals. Goalie
Allison Holsinger ’10 (Denton, MD -- North
Caroline) started in the cage for EC and earned herself
one save.
Following the halftime break
Jalene McCulloch ’10 (Belleville, ONT --
Millbrook School) stepped in goal for the Purple and Gold.
McCulloch saw a total of four shots in the second
half, and came up with a total of 2 saves.
Henson sealed the victory for EC at the 50th
minute mark, when
Blair managed to get a pass off to
Henson, who then put it in the back of Wells cage.
EC returns to action Saturday, when they face Nazareth College in
an Empire 8 conference match at 1 p.m. at Campus Field.
