ELMIRA, NY - Second year forward Luke Lennox netted a pair of goals
to help guide the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College (7-4-1, 2-1
E8) to a 4-0 shutout conference victory over the Soaring Eagles
(3-8-1, 1-3 E8) on Sunday afternoon.
EC was only able to control the Cardinal’s offense for
the first 20 minutes of the match. Fisher dented the scoreboard in
the 22nd minute of the match, giving them the early 1-0 lead.
Despite many efforts to recover as a team, Fisher continued to add
on the pressure, earning their second goal 8 minutes later. Andrew
McIntosh was able to dribble the ball through the Purple and
Gold’s defensive third, and place it by third year
goalkeeper
Jon DePrimo ’09 (Elmira, NY --
Southside).
EC’s only opportunity of the first half was when first
year defender
Anders Ostrum ’11 (East Montpelier, VT --
U-32) received a cross from the right side of the field,
and drove it on net. Unfortunately, goalkeeper Adam Durst was in
the right spot to make the save.
After the intermission, EC tried to get going offensively, but fell
short on many occasions. The Cardinal’s on the other
hand continued to apply quick offensive pressure. It would only
take 2 minutes and 34 seconds for Fisher to capitalize again.
Fisher managed one more goal before the final horn sounded.
EC had a few solid chances in the second half, with none really
producing any solid outcomes.
Brian Haschke ’10 (Pittsburgh, PA -- Deer
Lakes) and
Tim Certosimo ’10 (Mahwah, NJ --
Mahwah) each put a shot on net.
The Soaring Eagles return to action this Saturday, when they face
RIT in an Empire 8 conference match at noon at RIT.
