September 29th, 2007
GENEVA, NY - In this afternoon’s non-conference game the Soaring Eagles (1-6) were defeated by Nationally Ranked Herons of William Smith College (8-0), by the score of 8-0. Forward Kaitlyn Hamilton led the charge for the Heron’s earning three goals.

Despite many efforts throughout the course of the game, EC managed only two shots against the Heron’s defense. Second year goalie Jalene McCulloch ’10 (Belleville, ONT -- Millbrook School), had another busy day today coming up with a total of 13 saves, while facing more than 30 shots from William Smith.  McCulloch came into the match ranked first in the Empire 8 in both saves and saves per game.

The Heron’s took an early 1-0 lead in the seventh minute on a penalty corner play. Kaitlyn Hamilton recorded the go ahead goal on a pass from Jamie Tucciarone and Kelsey Landahl. After that, the Heron’s would then score 3 more goals with in a 7 minute window to extend their lead to 4-0.

EC’s defense finally came together after the fourth goal, and did not allow another goal for the rest of the first half, and for the first 10 minutes of the second.

William Smith’s fifth and sixth goal were both earned in less than one minute, while their final two goals came in the 51st and 56th minute of the game. Today’s game is the sixth consecutive game, where EC has not found the back of the opponent’s goal.
