ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira College Women’s Tennis Team
(2-5) faced off against Empire 8 rival Hartwick College (3-4) in a
crucial conference match. The Hawks of Hartwick, came on strong in
the latter stages of the match.
The Soaring Eagle netters captured their only point at second
doubles. The duo of
Torrie Robinson-Neff ’09 (Gloucester, MA --
Gloucester), and
Rebecca Kingman ’11 (Hamilton, NJ --
Steinert) seized the teams lone point in convincing
fashion, by shutting out their Harwtick opponents.
In singles play, the Hawks won four of the six singles competitions
to decide the match. Leading the way was
Robisnon-Neff who captured her team leading fifth
singles victory by a score of 6-0, 6-2. Following
Robinson-Neff’s lead was her doubles
compatriot
Kingman. Carrying the momentum over from her
doubles match
Kingman won her decision by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
The Soaring Eagle netters return to action to face non-conference
opponent SUNY Brockport on Wednesday, September 26th at 4 p.m. at
the Murray Athletics Center.
