Harry Penkoff '10 netted third career goal against
Marywood
SCRANTON, PA - Third year midfielder Anthony Roma scored
the game winning goal three minutes into the first overtime period
to give the Pacers of Marywood University their third win of the
season.
Today’s non-conference match between EC and Marywood
was an evenly matched competition, with neither team really taking
control of the game.
The Pacers struck first this afternoon on a penalty kick goal 8
minutes into the match. Mikhail Attong capitalized on the penalty
kick opportunity, and gave his team the 1-0 lead. However,
Marywood’s would only lead for about 9 minutes. Second
year defender
Harry Penkoff ’10 (Trumbull, CT -- Lawrence
Academy) connected on a redirected cross to score the
tying goal. Assisting Penkoff’s goal was midfielder
Drew Kelsey ’08 (Salem, MA -- New
Hampton) who initially redirected the cross from
defenseman
Dane Bertha ’09 (Pittsburgh, PA -- Deer
Lakes).
Kelsey took the ball out of the air, and placed it
right on
Penkoff’s head. He then was able to
direct past Pacer goalie Daniel Reynolds. Unfortunately, EC would
not find the back of the Pacers net for the rest of the afternoon.
Following the half time break, both teams tried to spark some type
of offensive surge in hopes to earn the game winning goal, but
neither team could seal the deal.
With the score tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, both teams
stepped on the field for the first overtime. It would only take the
Pacers three minutes to end the match. Roma was able to connect
with Lee Powers who crossed the ball in behind the Soaring Eagles
defense, and pushed it by goalkeeper
Jon DePrimo ’09 (Elmira, NY --
Southside).
EC will now look to Saturday, as they prepare for their first
Empire 8 Conference game of the season against #11 Stevens Tech. EC
will face the Ducks on Campus Field at 1 p.m.
