Houghton Hands Field Hockey Second Loss of the Season
September 11th, 2007
ELMIRA, NY - In today’s non-conference game between
the Highlanders of Houghton College (2-3), and the Soaring Eagles
(1-2) Houghton handed EC their second loss of the season in a 2-0
shutout victory.
For almost the entire game EC was forced to play defensively. They
managed to mount 3 solid offensive opportunities, which were
thwarted by tough defensive play from the Highlanders. The Soaring
Eagles were only able to get off one shot the entire game. This
afternoon’s game did not go the entire 70 minutes due
to a severe lightning storm, which ended the game with about 2
minutes left to play in the second half.
Second year goalie
Allison Holsinger ’10 (Denton, MD -- North
Caroline) did everything in her power to keep the
Highlanders out of the goal. She managed to keep the game scoreless
for all of the first half, and most of the second. She recorded a
total of 17 saves this afternoon, and faced 25 shots from
Houghton’s offense.
Along with
Holsinger, fourth year defender
Shannon Desgrosiellier ’08 (New York Mills, NY
-- New York Mills) had a solid
game defensively. Her tough play limited
Houghton’s attacks in the center of the defensive
third. She also helped spark the team’s offensive
chances as well.
The Soaring Eagles will look to bounce back from this
afternoon’s tough loss on Thursday, September 13th,
when they head to SUNY Geneseo to face the Knights in a
non-conference game. Thursday’s game is scheduled to
begin at 4:30 p.m.
