ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira College Women’s
Tennis team captured their first regular season and conference win
on Saturday, against the Pioneers of Utica College. The Soaring
Eagles captured the victory by a score of 9-0. “I was
happy with how the team played. They came out focused and played
their games. I can tell that the girls will carry the momentum of
this match into the rest of the season,” said
Coach Levkanich.
The Soaring Eagle Netters captured all three doubles matches to
start the afternoon.
Kim Kellet ’09 (Binghamton, NY -- Chenango
Valley), and
Emily Talbot ’09 (Cazenovia, NY --
Cazenovia) won by a score of 8-0. While at third doubles,
the team of
Desiree Calderella ’10 (Pittsfield,
Ma -- Taconic) and
Alia Pyros ’10 (Shavertown, PA --
Dallas Senior) won by a score of 8-3.
In singles play, the focused play of the Soaring Eagles proved to
be the deciding factor. At the No. 3 position,
Rebecca Kingman '11 (Hamilton, NJ --
Steinert) grabbed her first collegiate singles victory in
two straight sets victory, 6-2, 6-0. At the No. 4 spot
Torrie Robinson-Neff '09 (Gloucester, MA --
Gloucester), played a tough match but pulled it out with a
6-2, 6-1 victory. Rounding out the lineup at the No. 5 position
Dani Oaxaca '10 (Rancho Cucamonga, CA -- Rancho
Cucamonga), played a steady and focused match and defeated
her pioneer opponent 6-1, 6-0.
The Soaring Eagle netters hit the road this week to face Empire 8
opponent Alfred University on Wednesday, September 8th.
