Last Minute Goal Pushes Men's Soccer Past Morrisville in Season Opener
September 4th, 2007
Head Coach Jeremiah Kneeland '05 earned his first
career coaching victory with win over SUNY
Morrisville
MORRISVILLE, NY - First year forward
Jeremy Brand ’11 (Cato, NY --
Cato-Meridian) scored his first career goal this afternoon
with only 1:11 left on the clock to give the Soaring Eagles their
first win of the 2007 season.
This afternoon’s game was a back and forth battle
between two physical and competitive teams. Both EC and Morrisville
had many opportunities to take the lead this afternoon, but neither
team was able to capitalize on their possessions. It was not until
the closing minutes of the second half, that the Soaring Eagles
were really able to apply all of their offensive pressure.
Morrisville’s defense did everything in their power to
keep the ball out of the back of their net, but with only moments
to spare
Brand was able to get the ball on his foot, and
blast it by Mustang goalkeeper Anthony Woods, giving EC the win.
The Soaring Eagles defense played a crucial role in
tonight’s victory shutting down
Morrisville’s attack time after time. Along with the
Soaring Eagles solid defensive play, third year goalkeeper
Jon DePrimo ’09 (Elmira, NY --
Southside) came up with a total of 7 saves this afternoon.
This win also marks the first career victory for Coach
Jeremiah Kneeland ’05, who was named
head coach of the Soaring Eagles earlier this summer.
“I am very pleased with the way the team played this
afternoon. It was a hard fought battle between two equally matched
teams. Tonight’s win was a true testament to how hard
this team has worked throughout the preseason, and I know that we
will continue to improve as the year goes on,” said
Coach
Kneeland.
Men’s Soccer returns to action this Saturday, September
8th when they take on Nationally Ranked Hobart College at 1 p.m. at
Campus Field.
