Last Minute Goals Earn Brockport the Victory over Women’s Lacrosse
March 22nd, 2007
ONEONTA, NY - Brockport’s (2-1) first
year attack Lexie Goodhart earned her first hat trick of the year
in tonight’s 7-8 victory over Elmira College (2-2) at
SUNY Oneonta. Goodhart scored the gametying goal with only 30
seconds left to play in regulation, which was then followed up by
Kim Winslow’s game winning goal with only 10 seconds
left to play.
The first half started with EC taking the 1-0 lead in the opening
minutes. Second year midfielder
Stephanie Walker ’07 netted the go
ahead goal at the 28:11 mark. Fourth year attack
Katya Outwater ’07 assisted
Walker’s goal. Brockport would then
tie the game five minutes later on a Kath Villa goal which was
assisted by Winslow. The score only remained 1-1 for a short time.
First year attack
Perry Markell ’10 who has shown
continuous improvement in every game she has played in this season
netted back-to-back goals for EC giving them the 3-1 lead. With a
free position goal from Brockport EC still held onto their lead by
only one goal.
Outwater then extended EC’s lead back
to two on a great goal which was unassisted at 13:10 in the first
half. Unfortunately within the final minutes of the half Brockport
would tie the game at 4-4 with back-to-back goals from Lindsey
Cayea.
With the start of the second half it truly was anyone’s
game to win. Even though Brockport took the early lead EC did not
give up one bit.
Walker answered back a minute after the Brockport
goal to tie the game once again. Brockport’s Julie
Decker earned the Golden Eagles their second lead of the half with
more than 15 minutes left to play in regulation.
The final minutes of play however would see a combined four goals
respectively.
Markell started the scoring frenzy with a minute
left to play. After
Markell’s goal Outwater added another
goal giving the Soaring Eagles 7-6 lead with only seconds left to
play. Unfortunately with less than 30 seconds left to play in the
game crucial turnovers by EC would cost the Purple and Gold not
only the lead but the game as well.
Goalie
Malorie Stockwell ’08 faced a total of
22 shots from Brockport’s offense tonight and made
seven saves.
Markell who finished the night with the hat trick also led the team
in ground balls having earned seven total. She also managed to win
eight draw controls as well.
EC will look to bounce back from tonight’s loss when
they take on Empire 8 conference rival Ithaca College this
Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Cornell University
in Ithaca, NY.
