Women's Lacrosse Falls to Colorado College in Season Opener
February 21st, 2007
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - In their 2007 season opener the Elmira
College Women’s Lacrosse team was defeated by the
Tigers of Colorado College by the score of 6-10.
The first half seemed to be pretty even with EC and Colorado
recording four goals a piece. The Tigers, Kate Fitzgerald made it
0-1 game seven minutes into the first half. However the score would
not remain this for long with EC’s
Sarah Young ’09 scoring her first goal
of the season at 15:08 tying the game at 1-1. Again the
Tiger’s took the lead right back scoring their second
goal of the game 4 minutes later which started from caused turnover
by Colorado in EC’s offensive third. Robin Harvey
scored the second goal on a pass from Fitzgerald.
This time first year midfielder
Perry Markell ’10 tied the game at 2 a
piece with about six minutes left to play in the half. With in the
final five minutes EC and Colorado would each record two more
goals. EC’s final two goals were both scored by team
Captain
Stephanie Walker ’07.
Walker’s second goal was scored with only 5 seconds
remaining, and would end the half with the score tied at 4-4.
Unfortunately the second half would favor the Tigers for the entire
30 minutes. Colorado took a 4-5 lead early in the second half on a
goal from midfielder Robin Harvey. The Soaring Eagles found
themselves in a real hole when the Tigers netted three consecutive
unanswered goals with in a minute making it 4-8. The woes would not
end for EC with Colorado scoring their ninth goal of the day at
half way mark.
However,
Katya Outwater ’07 tried to spark the
EC offense with back to back goals making 6-9. The Tigers would end
any offensive momentum that EC might have had with their tenth and
final goal being scored in the final three minutes of the game.
Third year goaltender Malorie Stockwell '07 played the entire
game for EC and made a total of 16 saves and faced 35 shots from
the Tiger's offense.
EC will return home this week and will face Clarkson College on
Saturday, March 10th at 2 p.m. at Liverpool High School in
Liverpool, NY
