Women's Basketball Overpowers Hartwick College to Earn Second Empire 8 Win

Elmira, NY - In their second conference game of the weekend the
Soaring Eagles add another win to their conference record by
defeated the Hawks of Hartwick College.
The Soaring Eagles commanded the lead from the tip-off. In the
first 7 minutes of the game EC held Hartwick scorelss while they
recorded 12 points. Four different players combined to give EC the
12 point lead. Hartwick's first basket came at 13:22 in the first
half when Jenny Knight '07gave the Hawks their first 2 points of
the game. EC would continue to put the offensive pressure on
Hartwick to eventually gain an 18 point lead with 6:30 left in the
first half. However, Hartwick would try to post a come back in the
final five minutes of the half, closing the 18 point lead down to 9
right before the half. EC led the Hawks 37-28 going into the locker
room.
EC would come back in the second half the same way they started the
game. The offensive pressure that the Soaring Eagles were putting
on Hartwick would eventually lead the Purple and Gold to 19 point
lead 5 minutes into the second half. In the first five minutes EC
held Hartwick to only 6 points, while they recorded a
total of 12 points. With a little more than 11 minutes left in the
half EC would break the 20 point lead over Hartwick and stretch it
to a 22 point lead (58-36). Hartwick would only be able to get the
lead down to 13 points before, EC went on to win their second
conference game of the season.
Four EC players recorded double-digits in scoring in today' game.
Kourtney Troutman '08 who finished the game with
19 points, recorded a total of 39 points in this weekends
double-header.
Marcia Coakley '09 was second on the team in
scoring with 12 ponits for a weekend total of 30 points.
Rachel Bliss '07 finished with 11 points while
Mary Symonds '09 finished today's game with 10.
Symond's also finished the game with a total of 8 rebounds.
Women's basketball returns to action this Tuesday, January 16th
when they take on SUNY Morrisville. Tuesday's non-conference game
is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at Speidel Gymnasium.
