Men's Basketball Drops Home Opener to SUNY Cortland

Elmira, NY - In their 2006 home opener the Soaring Eagles were defeated by the Red Dragons of SUNY Cortland by the score of 56-99. 

Leading EC's offense was Matt Keating '07 who scored 15 points in tonight's game.  Keating was 6-10 from the floor and 2-4 from outside the arch.  Keating also recorded a total of 6 boards.  First year player Bryan Mathews '10 was second on the team with 7 points shooting 3-3 from the floor and 1-1 in three point field goals.  First year transfer Derek Shaw '08 pulled down 5 rebounds for the Soaring Eagles but fouled out half way through the second half.  Leading the Purple and Gold in rebounds was first year player KC Mendez '10 who tallied a total of 7 rebounds.  Mendez also put up 6 points for EC as well. 

Cortland's offense was led by Dave Maggiacomo '07 who scored 18 points for the Red Dragons.  Maggiacomo was 7-12 in field goals and 4-8 in three pointers.  Michael Jankiewicz '08 was second on the team in total points scoring 14.  Jankiewicz also earned 5 rebounds and had 1 steal for Cortland.  Carson Niehoff '09, Rod Headley '07, and Juan Miolan '09 each tallied a total of 12 points.  Miolan was second on the team in total rebounds with 4. 

EC will look to bounce back from tonight's loss when they take on the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford on Monday, November 27th.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
