Women’s Basketball Earns First Win of the Season in Drew U. Tournament

Madison, NJ – In their first game of the season, the
women’s basketball team defeated Emerson College by the
score of 72-44 to earn their first overall win of the 2006-2007
season. The Soaring Eagles will now advance to the championship
game tomorrow. They will face the winner of the Manhattanville
College-Drew University game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. today.
EC dominated the Lions of Emerson the entire first half of play.
Danielle Troutman’06 led the team in
scoring with a combined total of 8 points.
Troutman was 2-6 from the floor, 1-4 from three
point range, and 3-4 from the free-throw line. She also accumulated
3 steals and 3 rebounds.
Britta Anderson ’07 came off the bench
for the Soaring Eagles and recorded 7 points for the Soaring
Eagles.
Anderson also pulled down 5 boards.
Marcia Coakley ’09 led the team in
steals at the end of the first half with 5.
Emerson’s
Lindsay DeStefano ’08 led the Lions in
total points with 7, shooting 3-7 from the floor and 1-2 from the
line.
DeStefano also led the team at the end of half in
steals with 3.
Lauren Vassallo ’09 was 2-4 from the
floor for Emerson and led the team in total rebounds with 4.
The first half ended with the Soaring Eagles leading the Lions
46-16.
Emerson started off the second half scoring 7 unanswered points,
however EC would come back to score 12 unanswered points of their
own.
Troutman would finish the game with 8 points
shooting 2-6 from the floor and 2-4 from outside the arch.
Mary Symonds ’09 shot for a total of
11 points in today’s game. Symonds was 5-6 in field
goals.
Bridget Catanese ’08 finished the game
with a total of 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Anderson would add another 2 points to her total
today giving her 9 points on the day.
Anderson was 3-3 from the floor and 3-4 from the
foul line.
DeStefano finished the game today with a total of
15 points making her the leading scorer for the Lions in
today’s game.
DeStefano also tallied a total of 6 rebounds and 4
steals.
Vassallo,
Becky Everett '08, and
Maude Okrah ’09 each finished with 6
points.
Tomorrow’s championship game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
and will feature the Soaring Eagles and the winner of
Manhattanville College versus Drew University game.
