Geneseo Wins 2006 EC Volleyball Invitational

Elmira, NY - In the championship match of the 2006 EC Volleyball Invite, SUNY Geneseo defeated Elmira College 3 games to 1.

All tournament selection Jess Mezei '07 had another amazing performace, scoring 12 kills.  Mezei also tallied 29 digs in the game.  Her numbers offensively in the tournament were 69 kills overall, averaging 4.60 kills a game, and defensively Mezei was recorded 97 digs (6.47 dig/g) in four games.  Fourth year middle hitter Jackie Clark '07 who too was voted to the all-tournament team, also put up great numbers offensively.   Clark made 15 kills in the game and was second on the team in total kills for the tournament, scoring 60 kills overall. 

Once again Amanda Weaver '10 put up amazing numbers in the set assist category.  In the game against Geneseo,  Weaver tallied 35 set assists.  In just the four games that Elmira played in Weaver assisted her teammates 151 times.  Defensively Susan Clark '09 was second on the team in digs with 68 digs overall throughout the tournament.  Behind  Clark was Katie Schildwaster '08 with 40 digs overall.  The Soaring Eagles put up impressive numbers for their first tournament of the season.  The team looks to take this momentum and use it throughout the season, in hopes to earn a post-season birth once again. 

The Purple and Gold return to action next Friday September 15th, where they will be facing SUNY Oneonta in the SUNY New Paltz Tournament.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
