Making a Gift of Securities

Elmira College welcomes and appreciates gifts of securities. To be sure that your gift is designated as you wish, you must contact your broker or banker stating your wish to give securities to Elmira College. Specify the type of stock and the number of shares, whether your gift is designated for a specific purpose, and the date on which the gift is to be transferred (two to three days is usually sufficient).

Your letter must include the following information

Contact Dean Sherry Trocino, Vice President of Development or ask your broker to contact our office directly at 607-735-1770. We must receive this information to properly credit your gift. Because electronic transfers often do not include the name of the donor, stocks sent without notice cannot be matched to the donor. Please click this lnk to notify us of a gift of securities before the transfer is initiated, so that we may properly credit you for the gift.

In accordance with IRS guidelines, the date of the gift will be the date that Elmira College assumes ownership of the shares. The value is determined as the average of the high and low listings for the stock on that date.
