Brad ’05 and Courtney Music Lackey ’06 are
two of the 9% of Alumni that have fallen in love with one another
at Elmira College. The college sweethearts have taken a brief look
back on their most favorable times that Elmira College had offered
them. Below they describe their most influential and valuable
recollections that have impacted their life, career, and
relationship thus far.
What have been the highlights of your life and
career?
Courtney '06: The highlights of my personal life thus far have
consisted of marrying my husband Brad ’05, buying our
first home together, and taking an amazing three week backpacking
trip through Europe. My professional highlights thus far include,
attending graduate school, which will be finished in the summer
2010, my job as a communication specialist working with 3-5 year
olds with special education needs, experiencing the “ah
ha” moments when children learn a new skill for the
first time and sharing in the lives of families. These are the
things that continually reward me professionally and I truly love
my job.
Brad '05: I have been married for 3 years now to my lovely wife
Courtney '06, whom I met at Elmira College. Professionally, I am
currently working toward my MBA with a focus in Marketing. I now
have 4 years of experience as a Territory Sales Manager for
Wrigley.
Tell us about your three week backpacking trip to
Europe.
C: We started our backpacking extravaganza in London,
followed by Amsterdam, Switzerland, and Italy. We had an amazing
time and can’t wait for our next opportunity to travel
the world.
Are you involved in community service or have you received
any Awards?
C: In the Spring of ’09 I began volunteering at
The Arc of Washington County which is a community based program
that provides after school and daytime care and activities to
adolescents and adults with disabilities.
B: I was recently the recipient of the Wrigley Globe and
Spear Award for outstanding performance in my career.
What are your fondest memories of your days at Elmira
College?
C: Some of my fondest memories at Elmira College go all the

way back to Freshman Orientation, Mountain Day Singing, The
Branch, Midnight Breakfast, and end with a memorable graduation.
Some of the best times were getting ready with my girl friends
prior to a night out. It was certainly the relationships
I developed that made EC an even more wonderful place.
Which class, club, activity, individual, organization or
team do you believe best prepared you for your career?
C: All of the courses in the speech and hearing field were
crucial in my preparation to continue on to get my
Master’s. I also found that SIFE (Students In Free
Enterprise) as a whole prepared me in marketing myself as a
professional.
B: SIFE is a highly beneficial program that provided me with
real world experience and contacts that helped me to get my current
position at Wrigley.
What advice would you give students about preparing for
graduate school or careers?
C: Don’t get discouraged…everything
happens for a reason. Go after your dreams with dedication and
confidence. Embrace new challenges and experiences, and
don’t be afraid to take those roads less traveled.
B: Always continue to network. Building contacts will bring
new opportunities.
Do you have a favorite quote that embodies your beliefs or
values?
C: “Live. Laugh.
Love….it’s that simple!”
B: “Every man dies. Not every man really
lives.”
