The Elmira College Key Award, sponsored by the Elmira College Alumni Association, has been awarded to students since 1935. An award of merit, the Key Award is presented to outstanding students in their junior year of high school or preparatory school. One male and one female from each high school will be offered the Key Award.
The Key Award winner receives a $80,000 scholarship over a four-year period, $20,000 per year, upon enrolling at Elmira College. If a Key Award winner is eligible for a merit scholarship of a greater value at the time of admission to Elmira College, that scholarship supersedes the Elmira College Key Award. The student will still be recognized as a Key Award winner at Elmira College. The award is renewable each year as long as an academic average of 3.0 or higher is achieved. Recipients attending Elmira are also honored in the Fall of their freshman year by the Alumni Association and are presented with the prestigious Elmira College Key.
Selection criteria: each student must be in the top ten percent of the junior class; a minimum cumulative average of 90 percent or 3.5 GPA is expected – grades in academic courses are considered; the candidate must have demonstrated outstanding school and community leadership.
