By this point in your College search, you have most likely realized that what matters surrounding “the interview” varies greatly from college to college. At Elmira College, an interview is not required, but is encouraged. Students who interview at EC are pleasantly surprised by the friendly, relaxed atmosphere and how valuable the experience is in order to have their questions answered.
The EC interview style is an informal, yet informative conversation as opposed to an interrogation that most every student fears. A true learning experience, this one-on-one session is our Admissions team’s chance to connect with you, just as it is your opportunity to enhance your understanding of Elmira College by absorbing information and asking questions. Whether it is during or after your session, your interviewer will jot some notes down about your conversation, background, and overall fit with Elmira. Keep in mind that the best interviews are easy going, great conversations so that both parties get a true sense of who they are and what they represent.
A word about who interviews you. At Elmira, both Admissions Counselors and other College Administrators conduct interviews. Don't worry about who interviews you; it's often a matter of who is available. Our Administrator Admissions volunteers are trained professionals, and their evaluations are as important as those done by Admissions Counselors. Feel free to ask the interviewer, "Why did you choose to work at the college?, and what do you like, or not like?" Now you are the one conducting the interview!
Interviews are offered to students during their junior or senior years and may be completed on or off campus. An interview can be scheduled before or after your campus tour. Open House and other Admissions Events provide additional opportunities to interview.
Interviews may be scheduled

There's far more to your application than a test score or words on an application. The application process is like a jigsaw puzzle and an interview is one of those pieces that can connect the other pieces. A good interview is a good conversation.
