
Modigliani Quartet, Classical String Quartet
The Modigliani Quartet is known as one of the most sought after chamber ensembles. Formed in 2003, the quartet includes Philippe Berhhard (violin), Loïc Rio (violin), Laurent Marfaing (viola) and François Kieffer (cello). After studying at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Muisque de Paris, the Modigliani Quartet studied with the Ysaÿe Quartet in Paris, attended master classes by Walter Levin and György Kurtág, and had the opportunity to work with the Artemis Quartet at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. Modigliani Quartet first attracted international attention in 2004 after winning the Frits Philips String Quartet Competition. The quartet also took First Prize at the Vittorio Rimbotti Competition in Florence in 2005 and won the Young Artists Auditions in New York in 2006. The quartet’s recent engagements include Vienna’s Muskiverein, Lucerne Festival, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Library of Congress and Luxembourg’s Philharmonic. The quartet has also performed in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center and Tokyo’s Kioi Hall. This season, the Modigliani Quartet is touring as ECHO Rising Stars in Europe’s most prestigious halls. The Modigliani Quartet has collaborated with artists including Sabine Meyer, Gary Hoffman and Eric Le Sage.
