Primavera en Perú
This is an immersion course that includes trekking in the Andes, a visit to Machu Picchu, home-stays in Cusco, service work in an orphanage and a kindergarten, a tour of the Sacred Valley, and an excursion to Lake Titicaca. In addition, students will take morning classes in language and literature reading, analyzing writing about and discussing literature by major Peruvian authors as well as books on Machu Picchu and the Peruvian environment. Students must be in strong physical shape to participate in the course, and a minimum of basic Spanish is required in order to communicate with Peruvian families and handle the language/literature classes. During the trek students will sleep in tents. In Cusco Students will stay in a Peruvian home all together until the trek, after which students will live with Peruvian families in Cusco. During the Lake Titicaca excursion, students will also stay with local families. In addition there are several nights of hotel accommodations during the excursion, trek, and the final night in Lima.
